William Box is into Marquetry as well as Parquetry. Whats’s the difference? Well the first picture shows Marquetry, i.e. the craft of applying pieces of veneer to form decorative patterns or pictures, where as Parquetry is the art of creating patterns made up of blocks or pieces of wood. In this example the inserts into the compass were made with veneer.
Clive Dunmow has made some interesting pens including one shown here with tiny clock wheels encased in resin.
